Superpowers Anyone?

“To infinity, and beyond!”

“Holy guacamole, Batman!”

“I am Iron Man.”

Superheroes are IN right now. Whether you’re a Marvel movie fan, a DC TV show fan, or comic book fanatic – they are in style. They got a revamp, and I am in the category of ‘Fan’!

I love superhero movies, tv shows, and anything in between. In fact, if you’ve been keeping up with my posts and social media, you’d probably have seen a few posts over the years that confirm it.

One of the most popular questions that come out of discussing superheroes, is POWERS! What one would you want – if you could only have one? What would your superhero name be? Do you get a sidekick?

As I was writing my super spy series (Hannah Carmichael Chronicles), the thought came up again. Not because Hannah has superpowers, but because she has skills that inspired the question in my mind. She’s a SUPER spy, so why couldn’t I be a SUPER-HERO?

I need to give the question of What power some very series thought. So in the meantime, I want to know what superpower YOU would want? Flying, strength, and telekinesis are some of the most popular, but is there something else you’ve always wanted??

Walking On Water.. Towards Coffee (Book Review)

Did you miss the latest CGSP Facebook/Instagram Live session of coffee?
This time, I did a review of book 2 in a three book series by Ted Dekker.

Water Walker

A 13-year-old orphan has no memory beyond 6 months ago. When she is taken by a man who claims her mother (whom she thought was dead) is alive and wants to see her.

Water Walker (The Outlaw Chronicles, #2) by Ted Dekker

Wow.
Ted writes so well. I connected so easily to the story and the characters.
This book was pretty intense, but it was so intriguing!
I enjoyed it, and hated it, and wanted to throw it against the wall, and show it to everyone I’ve ever known.
I loved it

The Eraser | FURIOUS FICTION

He stood straighter, “It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should, therefore, be treated with great caution.”
She noted his stern expression, then locked eyes with the artifact.
“So how do we stop The Eraser? Using the artifact?”

He frowned, “I wish he had a better supervillain name. I feel like we’re fighting a school supply.”
She chuckled, “He plans to erase all life on the earth. I think he deserves the name.”
“Do you remember when he started? Just erasing superheroes? Now he wants to erase all life,” He rolled his eyes.
She exhaled and leaned on the table, “He’s never done anything like this before.”
The sound of an explosion shook the room and they fell to the ground. When she looked up, the smoke was thick and she waved her arms, looking for the table legs.
Grabbing hold of one, she pushed herself up. The smoke was clearing and she saw her partner still lying on the floor. As she started moving towards him, The Eraser started laughing. The smoke parted and he walked into the room, his Thing One and Thing Two goons on either side.

“Well, well, well. Looks like I caught you by surprise,” he said.
“You’ll never get the artifact Eraser,” she said as she took a step closer to it.
“I’m not so sure of that,” The Eraser pulled out a small box. He hovered his finger over the large red button and smiled. “This is an explosive device that I’ve specially modified. Do you want to know how?”
She scoffed, “I can stop anything you throw at me.” She flicked her hands and the fire started to burn.

The Eraser tutted and Thing One pulled a fire hose from behind his back.
“That won’t stop me for long Eraser,” she said, moving closer to the artifact.
“Perhaps not,” The Eraser said quietly. He took a step closer to her and nodded at her partner., “This explosive is linked with his DNA. So unless you want your precious partner to die, you’ll hand over the artifact.”
She flicked her hands again and the fire disappeared.
The Eraser nodded, “Good girl. Now, hand it over or I will push this button and he will be destroyed.”
She glances down at her partner and took a deep breath.
”What’s it going to be then, eh?”

Decluttering My Life

I did something last week that lifted my spirits, made me feel more settled, and more organised (if that’s possible)…
I began the process of DECLUTTERING.

Inspirational Quotes for Decluttering - Free Printable Quotes to Motivate You

I recently got the inspiration to sort through my vinyl record collection and DVD collections. It felt amazing to go through and pitch the stuff I wasn’t going to watch or listen to.

I had to be ruthless because I wanted to keep it all – but I knew that keeping 200+ vinyls when I was only going to listen to 150 of them, was silly. Keeping well over that amount of DVDs (particularly when there’s Netflix and other streaming services), was also a waste of space.

When I was done, I felt lighter, brighter, and a sense of freedom. I have more space, I have only what I know I will watch or listen to, and I wasn’t cluttering up my house. There is nothing like the feeling of going from messy and cluttered, to clear and clean.

So, what can you declutter in your life? Do you have too many CDs or DVDs but you only watch streamed content? What about your desk… I have to do a declutter of mine once a week!
Let me know what you’re wanting to sort through – I’d love to know.

A New Normal?

Life right now is unlike anything I had ever thought would happen.
I’m only 26, so I wasn’t around for some of the other disasters over the years – like WW2 or the Spanish Flu epidemic. Imagine my surprise, when something like Covid-19 happened during my lifetime.

Jobs are different; spending time together is different; eating at restaurants and cafes is different, and shopping is DIFFERENT!

Panic buying is probably the most unusual part of this experience for me. The idea of freaking out that we’ll all run out of toilet paper is absolutely absurd! It’s made IN AUSTRALIA (for those of us who are here anyway). Supplies aren’t going to vanish – unless we DO panic.

Yes, it’s been isolating. Yes, jobs have either been dissolved or changed.

No, we can’t just go out and window shop anymore. No, we can’t go out to a concert, the opera, a movie or other event.

BUT – it won’t last forever.

I think so many have a negative view of this situation because they’re stuck in the idea that it will just go on forever. It won’t.

Life will slowly get back to normal, but SOME THINGS will have changed.

The way we socialise and shop will probably change – social distancing was ALWAYS a good idea in my book.
Take away might be a bit more common – also not a bad thing.
Connecting with family and friends may become more frequent – as we realise that our time together could be limited.

Let’s make the best out of what comes from this pandemic. Let’s continue to grow, continue to encourage each other, and continue to look forward!

How are you dealing with the ‘new normal’ right now? Have you taken to it like a fish to water, or are you struggling?

Proofing Pains | CGSP PODCAST

What is it about proof reading and editing our work that is so frustrating?

I always find it the most draining part of writing anything – a short story, a longer story or a full length book. The editing takes the longest, and is my least favourite part.
How do I combat these issues?

ep 4

The latest CGSP: First Book Journey episode deals with just that! If you want some ideas, or to giggle at my pain (not really) you can listen
>>>here

I’d love to know your thoughts on how you overcome the proofing/editing process!
See you in the editing room!

Snail Mode Vs Bullet Mode

I will NEVER eat snails… I just won’t. Hopefully, I’ll also never ‘eat’ a bullet… BUT, over the last few months, I’ve noticed that I have something in common with BOTH of these things…

Apparently, I have two ‘work modes’.
I either go at snail pace and do almost nothing whatsoever, OR I do Way too much and smash through ALL the work – like a bullet.

Neither of these is a good thing. There should always be a happy medium. I’ve tried to get that going, but no matter how I try, I always want to do the fun stuff that doesn’t need to be done for another four months. I get easily distracted by the fun, shiny, and interesting jobs, and leave the tedious ones. So, when it comes to deadlines for them, I have to do overtime just to get it sorted.

Snail pace is fun – because I get to do nothing, watch TV, read books or just hang around and eat – but it leads to my deadlines sneaking up on me. After about a week, I feel all the regret for pushing off my work. If there was a way to be a snail, like Turbo, I think life would be a heck of a lot easier.
I am always striving to find a middle ground, so maybe you can help me out?
What are some ways that you find a good work balance?
PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

Blessings Guilt

I have a difficult time accepting a compliment.
I have a difficult time accepting a gift.
I have a difficult time knowing that I have enough money to support myself – and beyond that – while also being aware that others have no home, no job, no food, and no little to no belongings.

When it comes to being blessed, I would say I’m in that category. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in the 1% of people, but I am able to pay my bills, have money to spend on the projects that I am passionate about (even if I do have to pay them off), and have a roof, food and a car.

Recently, I was able to purchase a new computer. I use apple computers, so you can imagine (or google) how much THAT costs. When I got the computer onto the desk, and smiled at my new purchase, it hit me almost immediately, that I spent a bunch of $$ on an upgrade for my computer (when the old one did work, but was 10 years old), and other people can’t afford to buy food for themselves.

I felt guilty. I was surprised that I felt guilty. I worked for my money, I wasn’t wasting it on something trivial like a years supply of gummy bears; but it was a lot of money to spend none the less.
I had ‘blessings guilt’. I felt guilty that I was so fortunate to spend that much money on a computer, when others could not.

I had to talk this out with trusted family and friends, and refuse to agree with this nagging doubt that I should feel bad about wasting all that money. Instead, I recognised that I AM blessed, and that through those blessings, I can bless others.

Have you gone out of your way to do something nice for someone else? Someone who doesn’t have the same opportunities as you?
Inspire US with your story!
