Reading From Kidnapped Entanglement (SPARKLIT)

Last night I was humbled as a reading of my upcoming book (in an earlier draft) was broadcast on the Sparklit Awards ceremony.

Along with other writers, I had my words (and face) known. It was amazing to be part of something so impacting.
I wanted to share the clip with you – even just to give you a glimpse into what you may expect when the book is released!

Entering this comp was a huge risk. No guarantees of winning, loosing, placing, being recognised or mentioned – nothing. BUT, it was a step towards my dream that I wanted to take!

Okay, I failed (if winning was the goal) – but now I get to say I did EVERYTHING I could to make my writing a success. I get to move on to the next part of this journey, and continue to put myself out there for the sake of my dream.

Sometimes we miss out on opportunities because it isn’t easy, we don’t want to be rejected, and we don’t want people to say that we can’t ‘hack it’…. This is ridiculous. If you don’t try, you WON’T succeed!

I encourage you – as I share my success and failures with you, be inspired to put your creations, your heart, and your dreams out on the line! Sign up for that course to change careers, send in that submission of a song or book or painting, talk to that person you’ve been crushing on for months. STEP OUT and reach for your goals/dreams!

My first TV Interview With 1700

My first author interview… sort of. It was great!!

Normally 1700 is shot live in studio here in Melbourne, Australia. With all the Covid restrictions, they’re doing things iso style – at home!

I got an amazing chance to chat with these beautiful people about the CGSP song competition, which was amazing!
I was SUPER nervous, but they were great, it was easy and hopefully looked okay 😀

I loved chatting about my book, myself and my song competition!

Keep checking back for MORE Kidnapped Entanglement news and exciting stuff as it gets closer to publishing! And you can sign up for my newsletter, which lets you know as well.

Talking To Myself….

I’m a writer, but first and foremost, I am a Creative!
I write books, poetry, music, and paint. Because I LOVE celebrating other creatives, I wanted to pay it forward and include you AMAZING Indi artists in my book!

Things are looking a little challenging in the world right now, but that’s not a cue to sit at home with a tub of ice cream and cookies (I went through that phase too, no judging!) This is the PERFECT time to get some exposure online and grow those important connections for when we can get out in the world again.

Check out the video below to hear about it:

If you want to have some fun, possibly get some exposure and listeners, head to the link and see HOW you can leap into the unknown!

I WANT TO REGISTER

So, DON’T MAKE ME TALK TO MYSELF! Share this with other creatives to jump on board and get their music to new people.

How Did We End Up Here?

You know those people who say
“I’ve always wanted to be a mechanical engineer – always! And now I am one, and it’s just as good as i’ve always dreamed!”
I don’t actually know too many of those people!

If you are doing what you’ve always dreamed of as a job – props to you! So many people give up, or think their dreams are impossible, and it never happens. Or worse – it does, and it wasn’t what they thought…

When it comes to writing, I am finally doing something that I LOVE – maybe it wasn’t something that i’ve wanted to do my entire life, but my current love affair did start when I was in high school.

My first true writing experience, was in a Creative Writing class elective in Year 9. I got to explore my creativity in another type of writing form (I had already been writing songs for quite a few years, but this was a whole other ball game!).
When I heard about a competition for young writers, I decided to throw my hat into the ring and see what bunny jumped out.

When I heard that I received an ‘honourable mention’ I was so proud! Before I entered, I showed my short ‘novella’ to a teacher (whose advice and notes I still have to this day – he was the first person to tell me I had writing talent) and away it went, warts and all, with a topic I knew almost NOTHING about.

Looking back, it is AWEFUL! But I didn’t stop there, I wrote another (and longer) VERY personal ‘novella’ the next year. I was the FIRST person to enter the contest Two Years in a row (although now there was another person who did the same – but the flag with my face on it was there first) and received SECOND Place for that one.

I was SO PROUD of what I had achieved, but I was dealing with a lot of stuff in my life, so I put the project, and writing in general, aside.

FIVE YEARS LATER, I stumbled onto a website which had a monthly competition where I could win $500!! It was Furious Fiction. Jumping into Furious Fiction every month not only helped me with regular rejection (I am yet to have a shortlisted entry – but happy for all the other writers getting recognition!) and got the creative writing ‘juices’ flowing again! All of a sudden, I had ideas flowing out too fast for my poor fingers to catch up – and Hannah Carmichael was born.

The Hannah Carmichael Chronicles was my first proper character and storyline I had created in Five years, and I was in LOVE – I had also discovered my primary writing genre.

So, where are we now? Well, I have Hannah still going (with some very EXCITING news about her coming soon!) and there are some other Incredible projects and opportunities (which I will tell you about in the coming months) that are taking off at a momentous speed.

I can finally say that I am doing what I love – I am a writer.
What was your dream job as a kid? Are you doing it now?
Let me know in the comments below…
