Don’t Wear a SPIRITUAL Mask

This is a season of masks.

Physical masks have become the mandate from our governments, health professionals, colleagues, friends, and family. The goal is to keep us safe, but how many of us a wearing a mask over our spirit?

I was spending time with God, and he gave me a word that I couldn’t not share with you – this word is for YOU! It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live, or what you’re facing, this is the word that God wants you to hear.

So, what do masks do?

  1. They hide your face. The remove the identifying markers that make people able to recognise you.
  2. They take away your breath. Often while wearing these masks, when we try to walk or talk with the masks on, we run out of breath/steam.
  3. They muffle/distort your words. We can’t always hear what that cashier behind the counter is asking us, because a mask is blocking the words – or the MESSAGE – that they are trying to share with us.

When God shared those with me, he added his own flavour to the mix. Advice, a pleading, a desire for us to not put a mask on our hearts or spirits. Because when we do, we end up doing the following:

  1. We forget our true identity in Christ. We are formed of his image, and we have a called identity to live without fear, but with peace, love, joy and so much more. Our IDENTITY is something we should never lose sight of.
  2. A spiritual mask can block the BREATH, or the Life in you. Sometimes we feel like we’re running out of steam, and it’s hard to continue. We can’t quite catch our breath. Don’t let the breath of life continue to work in you, and through you.
  3. We can find that the message/our words are distorted. When you are wearing a spiritual mask, you can be speaking out of hurt, out of misunderstanding, or many other things. This can be a problem. When we get the message – God’s message – out into the world, we need it to be clear, consistent, and correct. We can’t let it be muffled, distorted, or muted.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t wear the physical masks, but I am asking the question. Are you wearing a SPIRITUAL mask?

This is a strange season, but if you feel like you are wearing a spiritual mask right now, reach out to your pastors – who are called to lead and guide you. Reach out to your family or friends – who you know and trust to show you how to take off this mask. Don’t lose sight of God and his word.

Reading From Kidnapped Entanglement (SPARKLIT)

Last night I was humbled as a reading of my upcoming book (in an earlier draft) was broadcast on the Sparklit Awards ceremony.

Along with other writers, I had my words (and face) known. It was amazing to be part of something so impacting.
I wanted to share the clip with you – even just to give you a glimpse into what you may expect when the book is released!

Entering this comp was a huge risk. No guarantees of winning, loosing, placing, being recognised or mentioned – nothing. BUT, it was a step towards my dream that I wanted to take!

Okay, I failed (if winning was the goal) – but now I get to say I did EVERYTHING I could to make my writing a success. I get to move on to the next part of this journey, and continue to put myself out there for the sake of my dream.

Sometimes we miss out on opportunities because it isn’t easy, we don’t want to be rejected, and we don’t want people to say that we can’t ‘hack it’…. This is ridiculous. If you don’t try, you WON’T succeed!

I encourage you – as I share my success and failures with you, be inspired to put your creations, your heart, and your dreams out on the line! Sign up for that course to change careers, send in that submission of a song or book or painting, talk to that person you’ve been crushing on for months. STEP OUT and reach for your goals/dreams!

Wishing With the Gene of The Lamp

“If I had a wish, I’d wish for more wishes!”

It seems to be a common answer when you ask somebody what they would wish for. Even three, I think, is too many. When you really think about it, what are the common answers?
-Money
-World Peace
-Fancy things
-Dreams fulfilled

My recent thoughts about wishes were sparked when I see the ‘Aladdin’ lamp sitting next to my desk! Yes – I am the kind of person who bought a lamp JUST like in Disney’s Aladdin (and before you get on one side or the other of the original cartoon vs the new live action – you couldn’t BUY an Aladdin lamp before the live action – so there… although I personally like the cartoon better anyways)

I LOVE having the gene’s lamp in my office – it feels special, magical and full of possibilities.. what would I wish for if I saw Robin Williams or Will Smith pop out of that thing and offer me three wishes!!?

With all the debate on Williams V Smith, I personally think the BEST gene was Barbra Eden on I Dream of Jeanie.
The wacky adventures she and Major Nelson got up to… I’m giggling just thinking about it 😛

I would LOVE to hear what Your three wishes would be!
Would it be Money, Love or phenomenal cosmic powers (with itty bitty living space) or would it be something a little more unconventional?

My three wishes (I’d like to hope) would be:

-End to Poverty/Greed;
-End for all struggling with Sickness (Mental Health & Physical Illnesses); and
-Enough money to do WHAT I love, with WHO I love.

Let me know YOURS in the comments below, and share this with anyone you think deserves three wishes!
Always remember – you can make wishes, pray prayers or do things you LOVE, regardless of Gene’s in Lamps…
