Book Themes: Why, and What’s Mine?

Have you ever noticed that books tend to have themes?

Everything we watch, read and consider has a theme. I’m not necessarily talking ‘Mother Goose’ but when you boil it down, you can usually see some common themes.

Themes like Love Conquers All, Courage, Justice (that’s a biggie), X and countless others. They’re all there if you ‘read between the lines’ because that’s the point, right? It’s the point of reading a story, of getting lost in another world with people making choices and leading somewhere. Whether that’s the back garden where someone is buried after a jealous murder, or finding that final pot of honey and eating a snack. It all leads somewhere, and has a common theme or moral to it.

The two main themes for my book KIDNAPPED ENTANGLEMENT are COURAGE, and FAITH.

Courage – To do what’s right, no matter the cost. To risk everything for the people you love, and the ones who need your help. To speak out for those who can’t. To love and be loved. To leap into danger to protect the innocent.

Faith – To trust that things will work for good, even if you can’t see it then and there. To trust that someone is walking with you, even if that someone is God. To trust that someone out there cares about you, and will do what they can to show it. To trust that your love and actions won’t go unnoticed.

What are the story themes and morals that jumped out to you the most? I’d love to hear what inspires you, so I can inspire my readers as I move forward with each book.

Ultimate Self-Publishing Checklist

I LOVE LISTS

So, when it came to publishing my book, I liked the idea of having a checklist that I could mark off and KNOW, that I hadn’t forgotten anything.

I ended up with a publisher who’s assisting me to self publish, so they’ve got that list covered, HOWEVER….

Those people who are going to self-publish all by themselves…

It’s amazing and brave and incredible that you’re wanting to head on this journey no matter what ‘traditional’ publishers have to say about your book. These days self-published works can be just as good as the published ones – But there’s A LOT of work to do!!!

I want everyone with a creative dream to go through with it – put it out there in the world and share it so we can all enjoy. So, because I’d love to see you succeed, I decided to make that self-publishing checklist for you!

I’ve done a bunch of research into both traditional and self publishing, and I’ve come up with what I believe to be a kick ass checklist that YOU can use for your publishing journey!!

If you end up using my list, PLEASE share your work when you’ve finally got it up and running! If you just want to check it out and see if it’s for you – that’s okay too!

To grab the list (and keep up with my own publishing journey with my newsletter), click on the link below!

I can’t wait to hear that you’ve started your journey!

Reading From Kidnapped Entanglement (SPARKLIT)

Last night I was humbled as a reading of my upcoming book (in an earlier draft) was broadcast on the Sparklit Awards ceremony.

Along with other writers, I had my words (and face) known. It was amazing to be part of something so impacting.
I wanted to share the clip with you – even just to give you a glimpse into what you may expect when the book is released!

Entering this comp was a huge risk. No guarantees of winning, loosing, placing, being recognised or mentioned – nothing. BUT, it was a step towards my dream that I wanted to take!

Okay, I failed (if winning was the goal) – but now I get to say I did EVERYTHING I could to make my writing a success. I get to move on to the next part of this journey, and continue to put myself out there for the sake of my dream.

Sometimes we miss out on opportunities because it isn’t easy, we don’t want to be rejected, and we don’t want people to say that we can’t ‘hack it’…. This is ridiculous. If you don’t try, you WON’T succeed!

I encourage you – as I share my success and failures with you, be inspired to put your creations, your heart, and your dreams out on the line! Sign up for that course to change careers, send in that submission of a song or book or painting, talk to that person you’ve been crushing on for months. STEP OUT and reach for your goals/dreams!
