A curious message from her grandfather leads Abby to America, only to discover a nation where Christianity has completely died out.

But a larger threat looms. The world’s leading artificial intelligence industrialist has perfected a technique for downloading the human brain into a silicon form. Brain transplants have begun, and with them comes the potential of eliminating physical death altogether.

Hanging in the balance—the spiritual future of all humanity.

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner

turner

Becoming a Christian is the best and worst thing that has ever happened to Sarah Hollenbeck. Best because, well, that’s obvious. Worst because, up to this point, she’s made her very comfortable living as a well-known, bestselling author of steamy romance novels that would leave the members of her new church blushing. Now Sarah is trying to reconcile her past with the future she’s chosen. She’s still under contract with her publisher and on the hook with her enormous fan base for the kind of book she’s not sure she can write anymore. She’s beginning to think that the church might frown on her tithing on royalties from a “scandalous” book. And the fact that she’s falling in love with her pastor doesn’t make things any easier.

Despite indications that he is the one prophesied to end the ancient Reaper War, Jack appears to have no extraordinary abilities.

So when dark, mysterious forces grow, Hadley is in a confused panic. Much to everyone’s dismay, humanity seems to depend on Jack and his new teammates. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species. And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone. Or does he?

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders.

But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it’s too late

Everyone in my Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate.

I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that. Have I killed someone? Yes. I have. Who was it? Let’s get started.

Snapshot by Brandon Sanderson

Snapshot is a Science Fiction detective story following Anthony Davis, a cop assigned to Snapshot Duty. In this vivid world that author Brandon Sanderson has built, society can create a snapshot of a specific day in time. The experiences people have, the paths they follow—all of them are real again for a one day in the snapshot. All for the purposes of investigation by the court.

Davis’s job as a cop on Snapshot Duty is straight forward. Sometimes he is tasked with finding where a criminal dumped a weapon. Sometimes he is tasked with documenting domestic disputes. Simple. Mundane. One day, in between two snapshot assignments, Davis decides to investigate the memory of a call that was mysteriously never logged at the precinct, and he makes a horrifying discovery.

Counted With The Stars by Connilyn Cossette

Sold into slavery by her father and forsaken by the man she was supposed to marry, young Egyptian Kiya must serve a mistress who takes pleasure in her humiliation. When terrifying plagues strike Egypt, Kiya is in the middle of it all.

Choosing to flee with the Hebrews, Kiya finds herself reliant on a strange God and drawn to a man who despises her people. With everything she’s ever known swept away and now facing the trials of the desert, will she turn back toward Egypt or surrender her life and her future to Yahweh?

I loved these books enough to recommend them over and over to people (depending on what that person likes to read, of course), and I am so glad that I found them.

What books have you read that absolutely shattered you, never leave you, or are the first ones that come to mind when you need to recommend something to people?

Pets – Pros and Cons

Recently, we looked at the cats verses dogs debate, but this time, lets look a bit more broadly at pets in general.

Having a pet is a significant decision that can greatly impact your life. While the idea of cuddling with a furry friend and enjoying their companionship sounds enticing, it’s essential to consider both the pros and cons of welcoming a pet into your home.

Pros

Unconditional Love and Companionship
Pets offer unwavering love and incredible companionship. They can be a source of comfort, loyalty, and emotional support, especially during times of stress or loneliness.

Improved Mental and Physical Health
Numerous studies suggest that having a pet can positively impact our mental and physical well-being. Their presence can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while promoting increased physical activity.

Learning Responsibility
Taking care of a pet teaches responsibility, especially to children – but also adults who seem to lack on this level. It encourages empathy, develops nurturing skills, and instills a sense of accountability.

Cons

Time Commitment
Pets demand time and attention. They need feeding, grooming, exercise, and regular health check-ups. If you have a hectic lifestyle or travel frequently, finding the necessary time for their needs may become challenging.

Financial Expenses
Pets can be costly. From food and vaccinations to grooming and veterinary bills, they require regular financial investment. It’s crucial to consider these expenses before bringing a pet home.

Allergies and Restrictions
Some individuals may have allergies or live in a restricted housing environment where pets are not allowed. Considering these constraints is essential to avoid unnecessary conflicts later on.

Owning a pet can bring immense joy and countless benefits to your life. However, it’s important to assess the pros and cons to ensure that you can provide a suitable environment for their well-being. Remember, every pet and situation is unique, so do thorough research before making this life-changing decision.

Top Tips for Relaxation

In a fast-paced world filled with constant demands, finding time to relax and recharge has become more essential than ever. The good news is that creating moments of relaxation doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. With a few simple tweaks to your daily routine, you can enjoy blissful relaxation and enhance your overall well-being. Here are some top tips to help you unwind and find inner peace

Practice Mindfulness

Take a few minutes each day to disconnect from the chaos and focus on the present moment. Mindfulness exercises, such as deep breathing, can help calm your mind and relieve stress. Being outside in the sun or the breeze can also help with this, in having a thought moment where you let your mind wander and let go of some of the stressful thoughts you have been focussing on.

Create a Soothing Space

Designate a serene area in your home where you can retreat and unwind. Fill it with calming elements, such as soft lighting, comfortable seating, and scented candles, to create a tranquil ambiance.

Disconnect from Technology

Set boundaries with electronic devices to reduce stress and mental clutter. Establish “tech-free” periods, especially before bed, to promote better sleep quality and allow your mind to unwind.

Engage in Relaxation Techniques

Explore various relaxation techniques like deep breathing, prayer, or a bubble bath. Find what resonates with you and incorporate it into your daily routine.

Prioritize Self-Care

Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Whether it’s reading a good book, or simply going for a walk in nature, ensure you schedule time to take care of yourself. This doesn’t mean focussing only on yourself throughout the day, but remembering to give yourself a break if you’re stressed, and being okay with shutting out the world if even for five minutes.

Nourish Your Body

Pay attention to your diet and prioritize nourishing foods. Incorporate more fruits, veggies, and whole grains into your meals to fuel your body and promote relaxation.

Find a Hobby

Engage in activities that bring you joy and help you unwind. Whether it’s painting, gardening, or playing an instrument, having a hobby can be a wonderful outlet for relaxation and stress relief.

Implementing these tips (and the many more you can find) for relaxation into your daily life can have a significant impact on your overall well-being. Remember, relaxation is not a luxury but a necessity for a healthy and balanced life. Prioritize moments of tranquility, and watch as your stress levels decrease and your inner peace flourishes. Take a deep breath, exhale slowly, and embrace the blissful journey to a more relaxed you.

Top 10 Lockdown Sanity Tips

More lockdowns across Australia in recent months means more people losing their minds. So what are some ‘survival’ lockdown tips for your sanity?

Here are the one’s that I’ve collected and found particularly helpful:

  • Do plenty of resting, and enjoy this ‘forced time off’ with things you didn’t have time for.
Reading that book you keep putting off, or maybe moving forward with that craft project you’ve had sitting in the corner for the past six years… I love a good siesta, so having a nap or a relaxing afternoon with no work, is a good thing!
  • Dress up each day …most days).
Getting dressed in ‘work clothes’ instead of PJ’s or sweats can be helpful to put you in a motivated type of mood. Even though I don’t put as much effort into it as when I’m physically leaving the house for work (and let’s face it, most days not wearing makeup), I still put something semi respectable on.
  • Start a new project, or home hobby.
If you’re creative, you’ll know EXACTLY what project or hobby you’ve always wanted to get started. If you’re not automatically creatively inclined, you can still get something going!
Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn to bake, paint, garden a pot plant, or start those diamond pictures. Whatever it is, there are loads of options that you can choose from!
  • Don’t obsess over the news.
Sometimes we can find out focus in the wrong places. Yes, it’s good to keep up to date with what’s going on in the world, BUT obsessing over daily numbers, tragedy’s, or general negativity that you can find there, is not healthy. Try to catch up weekly, or just skim the headlines on your phone instead.
  • Binge watch your fav show, or a a new one.
There are a lot of streaming services out there, and there’s also this neat invention called a ‘DVD’ (and yes, I still love those. Don’t believe me? Check out my video where I talk about why I love them so much HERE). So, if you suddenly find yourself with a lot more time than normal, it’s the perfect time to get your favourite show in – or start that one that’s been on your watchlist for far too long.
  • Take a relaxing bath.
Even if you aren’t doing all the bubbles, fizzers, or various other “girly” type products, a bath is a way to break the routine of slouching around in your PJ’s. Maybe you’re doing it with the face masks and candles, or maybe you’re just relaxing in the hot water. Either way, a bath can be super relaxing.
  • Try writing a story.
Even if you aren’t an author or blog writer, sometimes getting a pen and paper (or laptop, typewriter, whatever you like really) and coming up with a story can be really stimulating. You can get out frustrations with your situation, you can fantasise over how you wish things were, or you could just imagine a world far, far away that is NOTHING like our current one.
    Get those creative juices flowing!
  • Stay connected to friends and family with technology.
There are a lot of ways to stay in touch with the people you love. If you aren’t able to see them in person right now, you can always call, text, or facetime with the people you care about. Catch up with them, share what you’ve done during lockdown, or have a junk food or movie party together!
  • Go outside, instead of online.
Computers and the internet are great, but going outside, can be really good for you (unless it’s bucketing down with rain). It can break the monotony of being inside, and can bring those endorphins if you’re exercising.
  • Listen to a podcast or audiobook.
Sometimes a screen isn’t the answer. It’s easy to sit down and watch hours and hours of TV, but a podcast or audiobook can be a great way to pass the time. Listen to a story, or something interesting in a podcast.

Whatever you find works, STICK WITH IT. Maybe it’s some of the lockdown tips on my list, or maybe it’s something else. Whatever keeps you sane, we’re all just doing the best we can, in a really unusual time.

If you want to read my book, head to the link >>>here for the KIDNAPPED Entanglement eBook, OR get the paperback direct from me for the cheapest price!

If you have any other lockdown tips and tricks, share them in the comments below and let’s support each other.
