My Top 10 Christian Suspense Books

It baffled my mind to hear that some of my friends and family had never heard of this genre of book – Christian Suspense!

This genre is one of my FAVS (including Romantic Suspense). So because you may not realise what these books are, here are the top 10 that I’ve read and are recommending:

henderson

The O’Malley Series – Dee Henderson

Starting with the prequel – Danger in the Shadows – we follow a group of orphans who adopted each other. They all have heart stopping, dangerous jobs (whether it’s hostage negotiators, forensic pathologists, or paramedics) and an earth shattering revelation shakes all of them to the core. This series started me reading, and Dee Henderson was my favourite author for a very long time because of them!

The Moonlighters Collection: Truth Stained Lies, Distortion, Twisted Innocence by Terri Blackstock

Moonlighters Series – Terri Blackstock

Starting with Twisted Innocence, we follow three sisters who end up moonlighting as private investigators. A criminal winds his way through all three books, with a new and dangerous mystery for each sister. There was a great pace, and incredible stories that weaved seamlessly.

Moving Target (Elite Guardians, #3) by Lynette Eason

Moving Target – Lynette Eason

Although also part of a series, I want to single this one out! The Elite Guardian series follow several woman who are body guards. Each story stands on it’s own, and THIS ONE killed me. It was so fast paced, always life and death, nail biting suspense. It was AMAZING!

The If I Run Series Collection: If I Run, If I'm Found, If I Live by Terri Blackstock

If I Run – Terri Blackstock

This is the first in the series, and follows a woman who looks to have killed her best friend… but did she really? She’s on the run, a former army investigator is on her trail, but is everything as it seems? This was really great, exciting and interesting characters.

Predator by Terri Blackstock

Predator – Terri Blackstock

The dangers of sharing too much, with strangers online is never more prevalent or terrifying than in Predator. After the murder of her 14 year old sister, a woman creates a false profile to get her own version of justice. An incredible warning for those who share too much online.

The Witness by Dee Henderson

The Witness – Dee Henderson

A woman witnesses a horrible crime, and before they can take her out of commission, she is under protection. But her own past threatens to throw everyone for a loop as they all navigate the next few days, weeks, and months together. This was so well done with conspiracies and hidden pasts to contend with.

Because You're Mine by Colleen Coble

Because You’re Mine – Colleen Coble

A little different (technically a gothic novel, but I’m grouping it in this post) – a woman’s husband is killed, and in order to stay in the country with her unborn child, she marries for convenience. Her husband’s death was a car crash, and his best friend survives. He seems to be taking his place, but as strange things happen around her, she has to discover what is really going on. This kept me guessing until the end!

The Candidate (Newsmakers #2) by Lis Wiehl

The Candidate – Lis Wiehl

How far will someone go to be president? All the political intrigue and conspiracies, blackmail and manipulation. Plus, a reporter who isn’t going to let the story lie. This was a fantastic book that was also part of a series!

Kidnapped: Henderson, Dee: 9781414323633: Amazon.com: Books

Kidnapped – Dee Henderson

Wife and son have been kidnapped. Where did they go, and what is it that the kidnappers want? A mad rush to find them both before it’s too late! A fabulous Dee Henderson read with excitement until the very end.

The Ambition by Lee Strobel

The Ambition – Lee Strobel

A corrupt judge in a mob murder case. A disillusioned pastor, hungry for power. A cynical reporter, sniffing for a scandal. A gambling addict whose secret tape threatens the lives of everyone who hears it. A classic sounding story, but so well done!

There are SO MANY MORE, some of which are in my bookshelf that I just haven’t gotten around to yet – so if you know of more, please let me know!

The Post Office (FICTION)

What would you do if terrorists walked into YOUR post office? Would you try to be a hero, or just survive?

I tapped my foot and clicked my tongue as I stood, otherwise silently. The line still hadn’t moved, and I was beginning to regret the decision to mail this letter to my parents.

They were holidaying in London this year, and Charlotte had written her first letter to them. I could still see the smile on her little face when she handed me the finished letter and asked me to send it out to ‘Grammy’ and ‘Pop-Pop’.

Snail mail. That child still loved the idea of snail mail. I sniggered and tried not to let out a small snort of laughter in the small post office. She was one of a kind. Fortunately, she’d inherited more of Dale’s qualities than my own.

A sudden burst of wind indicated another person had entered the post office, and I avoided the instinct to turn and look at who it was. Before I had a chance to grab a sneaky glance, I heard something being shoved in front of the door, and the woman behind me in line screamed.
This time, I allowed my instinct to take over and whirled around, bending down to cower as I did so. There were four men wearing black cargo pants, black t-shirts, and masks over their faces. The most important thing that I’d noticed, however, was the large machine guns that they all held.

The one in front grabbed onto the woman who had screamed and threw her towards the ground, aiming the gun directly at my face. He was towering above me, but the only thing I could see through his mask – and the blurring of my own tears – was the eyes. They were dark and cold. No life in them.

“Everyone just do as we say, and we’ll leave you to your business,’ he said. His voice was strong and commanding, but he hadn’t raised it to a shout. The scream would have gathered interest outside, however. His attempt to keep this quiet was going to be fruitless.

The four men moved towards the tellers behind the screens, and protective doors. Behind them, packages and people’s personal mail is hidden in the back room. I do my best to remain at my place on the floor, but somehow – even through the haze of panic and fear – I’m still curious to see what they’re doing. My daughters letter is still clutched in my hand, and I readjust myself so I can peek up behind the person in front of me.

The men had ordered us to all remain on the ground, and were currently having a hushed conversation with the post office employees. I managed to get words like ‘our package’ and ‘let us in there’ before the employees shook their heads and tried to explain something.

Clearly not happy with the answer, the man in charge aimed the weapon he carried and told them to open the doors and let him back there.

“I’m sorry but we don’t have the code for the back room anyway. The manager was out for her lunch break, and she’s the only one with it,” the bravest staff member said.
The man in the mask straightened his posture and raised his voice this time. “I don’t believe that only one staff member has the code. Give me my property – my package – now. Or things will get messy in here.”

Before anyone could reply, sirens from outside grew closer. They were coming for us. For them.

Sensing the falling apart of their plan, all four men simultaneously looked at each other, then moved as a unit towards the back door. Ignoring the electronic code lock, they shot at the keypad instead. The noise was deafening in the small space, and I reached up to shield my ears the best I could. It was too late though, all I could hear now was ringing as the sounds around me sunk underwater.

Shock started to overcome my senses, and I watched the scene in slow motion. The men started to make their way into the back room, shoving aside the post office employees. Almost at the same moment, the police had decided the only way to deal with things. A distant metal clinking sounded as the door to the post office opened, and a canister was thrown into the room.

I didn’t know how long I’d been there. On that floor with those men aiming their guns. It could have been five minutes, it could have been fifty. The only thing I knew in that moment, was that I needed to move out of the way.

The canister exploded into a puff of smoke, and my senses were once again thrown into overdrive. It must be one of those flash grenades I’ve heard about. But I don’t actually know.
I reach up to my ears again, trying to shield my face from whatever would happen next.

I close my eyes and scrunch into a ball as I hear the screams, wailing, and sounds of gunfire and bodies falling to the ground.
It feels like an hour before I finally feel a hand on my arm. I try to swat it away, but as I open my eyes, I see that it’s a policeman. They’re here to save me. To save us all.

As I’m led out of the post office, I check for a sign of what had just happened. It had all gone through so fast. In a blur of shock, and fear.
Three of the four men are being led into a large, black police van. The other seems to have been shot, and is being wheeled into an ambulance.

I let them look me over and see if I’ve been hurt. When the paramedic smiles at me, she asks something, but I don’t hear her. Noises are still a blur. When she asks again, she points to my lap this time. I look down. I’m still holding Charlotte’s letter.

The woman holds out her hand for it, and I wordlessly stare down at it, before finally handing it out to her. Maybe next time I’ll convince Charlotte to email instead.

The Murder App | FIVE

A serial killer, technology, and a detective determined to find the truth. Come along on a murder mystery adventure, with The Murder App – Chapter 5!

Ella let the sounds of the store around her fade as she stood, watching the attendant go through her account.

She had been there a few months ago.

She thought she remembered the man she sold it to.

It was an unusual purchase, and he had a charming quality about him.

Ella needed this to be the guy. This case was already weighing heavily on her – physically and emotionally.

The ties that their killer was using had definitely come from the stock numbers in this store. They had confirmed it. Ella had a strong feeling of disgust that such a purchase could have gone through unchecked. That nobody thought it odd to have a man buying a bulk order of 50 red ties. But she understood the sales clerk’s position. She had believed his story about being a private designer wanting additional stock.

It wasn’t her fault. Not really. Still, the pain behind the consequences ate at Ella’s heart like a flesh eating virus.

“I can sit down with a sketch artist if you want,” the sales clerk’s voice brought Ella back into the present. She was lightly dusting her hand against Steve’s, while he quickly scribbled her comments. The swift strokes of his pen – mimicking the vein that now pounded in the side of his neck – made the words unintelligible.

Ella rolled her eyes as he casually glanced up, leaning his elbow on the counter and returning her gaze. “Well, thanks for your time. We’ll be sure to send someone by.”

Trying not to gag, Ella cleared her throat instead at his emphasis on the word ‘someone’.

It was typical of Steven to flirt with a cute witness. Ella had always considered it more than a little unprofessional, but Steven had a way about him. It negated the traditional creepy of a guy that hit on everyone, and replaced it with an impish charm.

They hadn’t got anything particularly helpful about the man who had made the purchase. They’d still get the sketch done, then compare it to suspects they got during the investigation. For today though, it was unhelpful. They had to start again. To go back to the dating app, and hope their honey trap caught a fly.

Ella needed something now. She had to get this guy.

Peeling herself away from the flirting fest, she opened her phone and pulled up the Love Connection app.

Over the last two days, she’d received several winks and messages from potential suspects. But one by one, Cyber had dug into their personal information and weeded them out. No red flags.

Another message bobbed up and down with a notification, waiting for her. Ella pulled it up and scanned the man’s profile.

He was cute, in an off beat kind of way. He had short blonde hair, and wore narrow glasses without subtle black frames. They suited his face well, and gave him a disarming appearance.

Opening his message, Ella caught her breath as she read over the words.

“I hope you don’t consider me presumptuous, but you are beautiful. Would you consider meeting at the Bright Sun shopping centre in South Melbourne on Monday?”

She was currently standing in the Myer department store of the Bright Sun centre. She quickly looked up and subtly scanned the crowd around her. Surely he wasn’t here – watching her already. Keeping tabs on the women he reached out to.

Right? It had to be a coincidence.

She looked back at the message and noted that it had come through in the past half hour. She moved quickly back to Steve and the shop attendant, politely pulling him away.

“Hey, watcha do that for? We were vibing, you know.”

She ignored the comment and thrust the phone at him instead. “I just got this message on Love Connection.”

Steve was struggling to keep up with her brisk pace as she headed back to the parking lot where they’d parked their unmarked car. They had to get back to the office and dig into this guy more thoroughly. Even if it was just a gut feeling, Ella wanted to go through this guys life with a fine tooth comb.

“Okay,” Steven said, handing back the phone. “But this could be just a coincidence.”

Ella gave a half-hearted nod. “It could. But I don’t believe in coincidences. Especially not on a murder case.”

I hope you enjoyed chapter 5 of The Murder App.
Come back next month for the next part of the story!
