Bucket Lists – Still A Thing?

In today’s fast-paced world, where experiences are often measured in Instagram likes and fleeting moments, the concept of a bucket list may seem outdated. With the rise of spontaneous travel and the pursuit of present-moment awareness, one might question whether the tradition of curating a list of life goals is still relevant. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that bucket lists hold a timeless appeal that continues to inspire and motivate individuals.

Exploring the Meaning:
At its core, a bucket list represents a roadmap of dreams, desires, and aspirations. It offers a tangible way to keep track of the experiences we wish to have and the accomplishments we hope to achieve. In a world full of distractions, having a bucket list allows us to prioritize our goals and create a sense of purpose in our lives.

The Importance of Setting Goals:
Setting goals, be they big or small, plays a vital role in personal growth and development. A bucket list serves as a visual reminder of the things that truly matter to us, pushing us to step out of our comfort zones and expand our horizons. By setting specific objectives, we are more likely to take action and make our dreams a reality.

Finding Balance:
While it is important to have aspirations, it is equally important to find a balance between actively pursuing our goals and appreciating the present moment. A bucket list should be seen as a flexible guide, not a rigid checklist. It is alright to adapt and evolve, allowing new experiences and opportunities to shape our desires.

Bucket lists are more than just a trend; they represent our innermost desires and provide a compass to navigate life’s journey. As long as humans have dreams and ambitions, the concept of a bucket list will continue to exist. So, let’s embrace the joy of setting goals and create a life full of meaningful experiences that will leave no room for regret. I have a bucket list, long term and short term, expensive and free, so what’s on your list? I’ve already crossed out a few of mine (like flying a plane), have you?

What’s Up For 2021?

Okay, so 2020 punched everyone in the face, then kicked our ideas out the window.

But, now we’re here in 2021, and we had a chance to start again. Another year, another set of goals to achieve. Onwards and upwards (and all that inspiration junk).

I don’t quite know how I expected things to go this year, so we’re doing a mid-year evaluation.

I had plans. Good plans.
I was going to submit manuscripts, be sharing and promoting my book, and working in my day job of school photography.
So, let’s run through all the goals that I set for myself for right now – halfway through 2021.

  • I was hoping to have submitted writing to some pretty important places;
  • I wanted to be working on several different manuscripts (in two different genres);
  • I was still planning to work at my day job;
  • Maybe I’d be creating youtube videos and blog posts to share;
  • Hopefully my podcast would be finished… With raving success; and
  • I was going to be researching, and going on new and interesting trips.

Okay, with all those noble goals, what does 2021 really look like?
Well….

  • I missed the deadlines (and realised the manuscript I’m working on needed a lot more changes/work than I originally thought);
  • I decided to cut down to just one manuscript at once (a good decision really);
  • My day job keeps getting put on hold with lockdowns (and I just roll with the punches… so to speak);
  • I’m still doing youtube and blog posts… So yay;
  • I haven’t finished the podcast yet, but I’m almost there. The success part is not exactly a win thought; and
  • I can’t do trips right now due to money and restrictions, but I’m doing some fun research anyway.

Well…. it wasn’t where I saw myself, but I’ll say this for my mid-year 2021 goals check in:

  • I have a new, beautiful house that I don’t deserve;
  • I’m enjoying the videos and blog posts (even if not many people see them);
  • I love having only one major project to focus on (multiple manuscripts make for more confusion!);
  • I’m reading more than I have in years… and loving every minute of it; and
  • I’m aware that I am very blessed.

So, I’ve taken stock of my life and looked at where I thought I’d be verses where I actually am. Things may not look exactly like I thought they would, but I can’t complain about it either.

My August TBR (To Be Read) List

I am BACK to reading all the books I haven’t just yet. This months August TBR list is exciting!

I’ve tried to give myself an easier goal this month for my TBR list (or “to be read”), so there are 5 books on the list to get through. There’s a bit of fantasy, and bit of crime, a bit of Sherlock, and some tragically timed – awfully coincidental – stories.

Check out the video below:

I hope you enjoyed the video, and I can’t wait to see if these books were worth reading.

If you’ve read any of the books I have on the TBR list, let me know your thoughts, and if they’re worth reading.
