Bucket Lists – Still A Thing?

In today’s fast-paced world, where experiences are often measured in Instagram likes and fleeting moments, the concept of a bucket list may seem outdated. With the rise of spontaneous travel and the pursuit of present-moment awareness, one might question whether the tradition of curating a list of life goals is still relevant. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that bucket lists hold a timeless appeal that continues to inspire and motivate individuals.

Exploring the Meaning:
At its core, a bucket list represents a roadmap of dreams, desires, and aspirations. It offers a tangible way to keep track of the experiences we wish to have and the accomplishments we hope to achieve. In a world full of distractions, having a bucket list allows us to prioritize our goals and create a sense of purpose in our lives.

The Importance of Setting Goals:
Setting goals, be they big or small, plays a vital role in personal growth and development. A bucket list serves as a visual reminder of the things that truly matter to us, pushing us to step out of our comfort zones and expand our horizons. By setting specific objectives, we are more likely to take action and make our dreams a reality.

Finding Balance:
While it is important to have aspirations, it is equally important to find a balance between actively pursuing our goals and appreciating the present moment. A bucket list should be seen as a flexible guide, not a rigid checklist. It is alright to adapt and evolve, allowing new experiences and opportunities to shape our desires.

Bucket lists are more than just a trend; they represent our innermost desires and provide a compass to navigate life’s journey. As long as humans have dreams and ambitions, the concept of a bucket list will continue to exist. So, let’s embrace the joy of setting goals and create a life full of meaningful experiences that will leave no room for regret. I have a bucket list, long term and short term, expensive and free, so what’s on your list? I’ve already crossed out a few of mine (like flying a plane), have you?

Meant For Me…?

Over the last year when I left my stable full time job to seek out more creative work, I applied for one in particular that I secured an interview for! But, something came through in the confirmation email that was NOT what I bargained for.

What was supposed to come? A map of the area and some general preparation documents.

What actually came? A shortlist for the interview candidates.

Right away, it was clear that the shortlist document with a table containing names on the left and information filled in on the right was NOT supposed to make it’s way into my inbox. But, there it was in black and white.

I quickly closed the document down without reading anything else (I’d only seen the names and the title ‘shortlist’), but then came the decision.

This was my chance, wasn’t it? To get a one up on the competition?

What if someone else had better qualifications and experience? What if I could do or say something to look better than them? I just need to know what it is that they have over me and I’d be a shoo-in to get the gig, right?

Some people told me to read it – what’s the harm? Some people told me to delete it and NOT tell the employer about their mistake. This silly little document that wasn’t meant for my eyes was giving me insecurity against my fellow interview candidates. It was causing me to compare myself to imaginary people and doubt my own abilities – and I hadn’t even read it!

It got me thinking. Life is a little like this sometimes. We can get an ’email’ sent to us that isn’t meant for us. It wasn’t supposed to show up in our path and seems legit. When that happens, we have two choices

You can read it, but when you do, it changes everything. Sometimes it changes the way we see ourselves or other people. Sometimes it changes the way we act, or speak to other people. Sometimes, we can let this opportunity or information cloud our mind.

The other option, is to send it right back and never look at it. Push aside that information on your college which could get you the promotion, but ruin their lives. Push aside that opportunity to move to another country, but would uproot your family and make them miserable.

I chose to be honest, and I chose to delete what wasn’t meant for me.

What are you going to choose?

That’s Christmas To Me

Christmas. Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you can’t avoid it come December. It’s everywhere with the Nativity, Santa, Reindeer, Mistletoe, Tinsel, Trees, Lights, Crowds, Shopping until your feet swell, Stress, Family disasters, and on and on it goes!

Christmas can be stressful, it can be fun, it can be sad, and it can be full of joy.

Whatever YOUR Christmas experience may be, there are a few things which you can be certain are being celebrated and considered each and every year at Christmas time.

  1. Being with your crazy, annoying, loud, obnoxious family that you love (usually) to bits
  2. Gifts are given and accepted with those you love, work with, and sometimes smile at, but secretly plan their murder in your mind
  3. Santa Clause and his elves/reindeer
  4. The birth of Jesus Christ

If you celebrate any, or all, of the above – congrats, That’s Christmas To YOU. I sent out a post last week about Santa, but this time, I want to focus on another part of Christmas…

Christmas carries with it, the message of Hope, Love, Peace and Joy.
It isn’t always like that for everyone – some people don’t have any family, some don’t have a place to go, or food to eat, and some are struggling with some real life grown up issues.

But, this is the time of year to celebrate something bigger than your struggles; bigger than your annoying family, bigger than that mountain of debt, bigger than finding that perfect gift or turkey.

Some say it’s the true meaning of Christmas, but I guess that depends on where you stand on this particular topic (personally, i’m the first group). Christmas is celebrating a baby being born, in someones backyard, with all their animals, and no money.

We all know the nativity scene – it’s part of the standard decorations which go up outside and inside houses all over. Baby in a little feeding trough, parents, wise men, shepherds, angels, and animals. But there was a real story, a real moment in time – it shouldn’t just be something we look at and forget come December 26th. Even if it’s just remembering what it stands for.

I hope as you all go through this Christmas season, you remember that everyone has the potential for Hope, Joy, Peace and LOVE; because that’s the real meaning to the season – Loving each other. Loving that person you see on the street who doesn’t have a home this Christmas, or that neighbour you’re feuding with over the tree which hangs over your side of the fence; maybe it’s that cousin who rubs you the wrong way, or that boss who is horrible to you every year.

Even through our loss, our hurt, our desperate situation – this is the time when we should be looking out for each other and showing our humanity and compassion.
So, I’m looking towards a better year, a better me, and a better world – because I know it’s possible; all thanks to that baby, born in someone’s backyard, with all their animals, and no money.

Merry Christmas, Blessings to all!
