Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, and here’s why.

While Die Hard takes place during Christmas, the holiday is merely a backdrop to the film’s thrilling plot. Unlike traditional Christmas movies, this action-packed masterpiece focuses on a high-stakes hostage situation rather than spreading holiday cheer or promoting the spirit of giving.

The Absence of Holiday Themes

Christmas movies are known for their heartwarming themes, such as family, love, forgiveness, and redemption. Die Hard, on the other hand, delves into themes of heroism, survival, and sacrifice. It lacks the central elements associated with traditional Christmas movies.

It Appeals to a Broader Audience

Christmas Traditions Around the World: Celebrating the Season of Joy


As the Christmas season approaches, people all over the world gear up to celebrate in their own unique ways. From centuries-old customs to modern-day rituals, Christmas traditions vary from country to country, reflecting various cultures and beliefs. So, just what do some of these countries do to celebrate family and the birth of Jesus?

Germany: Christkindlmarkt
In Germany, the festive season is synonymous with Christkindlmarkt, enchanting Christmas markets that pop up in towns and cities. These markets are adorned with twinkling lights, festive decorations, and wooden stalls selling various delights, including gingerbread cookies, mulled wine, and handcrafted trinkets.

Mexico: Las Posadas
Las Posadas, a cherished Mexican tradition, reenacts Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. For nine consecutive nights leading up to Christmas Eve, families gather, praying and singing carols, while children don costumes and go door-to-door, asking for shelter. The night concludes with a festive feast, piñatas, and fireworks.

Philippines: Simbang Gabi
In this predominantly Catholic nation, the Simbang Gabi, or “Night Mass,” is a beloved Christmas tradition. Devotees wake up before dawn to attend nine dawn masses, which culminate with the Misa de Gallo on Christmas Eve. After the mass, families indulge in festive feasts filled with native delicacies like bibingka and puto bumbong.

Singapore: Christmas Lights

During the festive season, Singapore comes alive with mesmerising Christmas lights that adorn the city streets. The iconic shopping belt on Orchard Road showcases an array of stunning light displays, with sparkly decorations adorning the trees and illuminating the facades of various buildings. Walking down this stretch feels like stepping into a fairytale as the vibrant colours and intricate designs create a truly enchanting atmosphere.

Christmas truly connects people around the world through the joyous spirit it brings. While I didn’t go through all the traditional celebrations, what’s most important is connecting with your family and with God as we celebrate and focus on the joyous parts of life – community!

It is December 12th, and we are still doing the Book Advent Christmas countdown! It was such a fitting book since the recent docuseries release that I had to share…

Christmas Advent Calendar… with BOOKS!

So, I decided to tackle the question of a Christmas advent calendar by mixing reading and my huge backlog of books to get through in my own bookcase, with Christmas!

The titles are randomly mixed, and the goal is to get through at least a chapter of each book every day to see what lies ahead for me when I finally get around to reading them… So, here’s the video where I go through and show you not only the Christmas book haul I will be attempting in December, but also the books that I get to unwrap each day and test the waters with:

Christmas In October… No, Seriously

Merry Christmas! I know, It’s October, but in our house, it’s the start of the Christmas decorating… It sounds silly when you say that out loud, but I have a reason!

Yes, my family actually starts putting up Christmas decos in October. “That’s crazy!” I hear you saying, but wait for the reasons.

I think that having a little Christmas early is a good thing. It’s about joy, hope, peace, and a bunch of other amazing things – who doesn’t want that a few months early?

Our reasons are a little sad, I’ll give you that, but I prefer to think of them as special.

Over ten years ago my Mother was diagnosed with cancer, and she was really worried about that year being her final one to spend with use, and have Christmas. So, in October, she put up the decorations and is still her 10+ years later. BUT, the decorations in October stuck! It’s a reminder of making it through a tough time, and being here with family and loved ones!

Okay, so it comes from a sad place, but it’s turned into a joyous tradition (all while giving everyone we know a good laugh!)
