There are some books that are just not for you. It’s allowed, it’s reality and it can be disappointing – especially when a lot of others have loved the book. That’s what this post is for, to share the books that gave me so much ick, that I couldn’t continue.
*If you liked these books, that’s great, this was just my experience with them.
Scarecrow – Matthew Rilley

Too much gore and violence for me
The Naturals – Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Stopped at 35%.
The description of criminal minds for teenagers is accurate, unfortunately it also has the dark and icky feeling that CM had too. So I had to DNF. I watched that show way longer than I should have, and I was not going to make the same mistake with this book.
Those “you” pages were intense as.
I liked the characters and the way they engaged, but once they started putting themselves into someone else’s “skin” as it were, and diving in a little too deep for me, I was done.
I can appreciate what this series is, and that it is done pretty well, I’m just not going anywhere near it.
Winter – Marissa Meyer

Stopped at 50%.
I enjoyed Cinder – the first book in this series – but once we kept going, things started to get creepier the further we got. I kept on as best I could, but we were really getting into some of the powers and a creepy mental health space, so I decided it was best for me to stop reading.
Rock Paper Scissors – Alice Feeney

Stopped at 43%.
DNF almost half way. It was creepy and that wasn’t what I was looking for
Vicious – V. E. Schwab

Stopped at 20%.
Bad guys with the superpowers was exactly why I tried to read this book, unfortunately it was not just “bad guys” it was evil with creepy as powers. Dark and disturbing meant DNF for me.
Powerless – Lauren Roberts

Stopped at 55%.
So, banter was amazing, characters were interesting, similarities between red queen and hunger games were there but it was still distinct to its own story.
There was a large focus on torture and it was quite dark overall (almost expected when you consider the hunger games aspect). That was a large reason why I stopped reading. It wasn’t too bad, but there was something a little too dark for me in this story to keep reading.
A common theme in this experiment was when these books started to get a little too creepy for me. Powers that were icky, mental health that was too far, evil that was just a bit too much and more were some of the reasons I didn’t finish these books. They aren’t a full list, and sometimes you don’t even know exactly why you don’t like a book, but either way, have you read these books all the way through? How did they end? Were they a good experience for you?
See You in The Adventures!
