Hannah is undercover at the crooked spy agency CGT, trying to take it down from within with the help of her friend and fellow agent Stephanie, and her husband Zeke who works with the real government to take down CGT. Her mother, Evelyn Carmichael, is also planning an imminent attack on a CGT prison building, which will destroy and release prisoners that CGT have said will impact the countries safety. Will Hannah be able to stop not only her mother’s attack, but also take down CGT? The stakes are personal, and the next part in Hannah’s adventure only gets more complicated!
THIRTY-FOUR:
Hannah paced the hallway and checked her watch again.
“Would you relax?” Stephanie shifted in her seat beside the door. “You’re making me
nervous.”
Hannah sighed, “I’m sorry.”
Stephanie smiled, “The date of the supposed attack has come and gone. It’s most likely Evelyn decided to scrap her plans and move on to something else.”
Hannah rolled her eyes and stopped pacing, staring at her friend. “You don’t know my
mother. If she decides on something, she’s going to follow through. Plus she
was still looking for the USB drive, why would she want it, if she was just
going to forget about everything?”
Stephanie shrugged, “Okay, then she’s still going to attack the prison. I don’t see what
the big deal is anyway.” Stephanie leaned in and lowered her voice. “How do we
know the prisoners in here are actually terrorists and not just people who
know… you know?”
Hannah looked up at the cameras and smiled, whispering through gritted teeth. “Would you mind keeping those thoughts to yourself? The walls have ears.”
Stephanie shrugged and got up, starting for the exit. “Those cameras don’t have an audio hook up anyway. Come on, it’s time for the perimeter patrol.”
Hannah sighed and followed Stephanie outside, walking in silence as they checked the outside of the building.
“I know Zeke couldn’t make it to Ian’s funeral, but what did his people say about it?”
Stephanie asked quietly.
“Noel said casualties are a part of war. CGT is war. Zeke didn’t say it quite like that,
but that was the gist.” Hannah balled up her hands by her side and took a few
breaths. Stephanie walked silently beside her for a moment.
“How is it with him finally home?” She asked, putting her hand on Hannah’s arm and
stopping her. Hannah stood and smiled,
“Nice.” She sighed, “We have a ways to go still before things get back to where they
were. But we’re not going to be killing each other in the foreseeable future,
if that’s what you’re asking.”
Stephanie rolled her eyes, “who said anything about killing each other? I just wanted to know how things were in,” she paused and raised her eyebrows, “other
departments.”
Hannah chuckled and shook her head. “I think you should mind your own-“ Hannah stopped and peered over Stephanie’s shoulder. Stephanie turned and watched the man Hannah had spotted, crossing the road.
“Isn’t that?“ Stephanie’s question was cut off as Hannah started sprinting forward.
“Yes, call for backup.” As Hannah barked the order, Stephanie trailed behind her, chasing after Evelyn’s man. Hannah’s gun was out of her holster and she tried to move as swiftly as possible. He was their only lead to Evelyn.
She ducked behind a car and poked her head up, watching the man entering the alley across the road. She turned and saw Stephanie, gun in hand. Motioning towards the alley, Stephanie glanced over then nodded.
Hannah stood and moved past the car, gun raised. As she grew closer she felt something prick her neck and she reached up for the spot. Her steps grew slower as she fought the feeling of swimming and a haze crossing her eyes.
Before she could get any further, the world slowly closed around her and the familiar
darkened drugged state took hold.
