Best Writing Locations

writing something, whether that is a blog post, a novel, an essay, a short story, a poem or whatever else there is to write is about one thing.

where you are when you’re writing can often affect your mood, the quality of your work, and the general experience of writing itself. if you’re also a writer, you’ll understand what i’m saying, but if you’re just thinking of getting more serious into writing, or just struggling to write an essay or piece that you need to for a specific reason, here are some interesting thoughts and tips for you.

i have noticed that when i am writing in my house, things are very different that when i am writing outside.

writing from home is good for some purposes. if it’s really late at night and you are a fellow night owl, it’s often a GREAT place to write in those early morning hours (personally, when i don’t have to wake up for work, i am my most creative writing at home from between 11pm and 2am). it is a comfortable place, where you can feel that while you’re typing. good for things like blog posts, and novel writing.

then, there are the places that are “serious” for writing – like libraries, school, or work locations. this is when you want to really dig in and get serious about your writing, and get stuff done! it can be really motivating to get a serious chunk of work done when you are in these settings, and often I have found things come out quite a bit more professional sounding in my writing at these locations.

the next place is the coffee shops of the world. these can be either really great, or really distracting. it’s going to depend on the time of day, the cafe itself, and the policy. one of those places that really requires you to always be buying stuff to maintain your spot will put pressure on you to get things done. it might stifle your creativity, or spur you on to get some great stuff done. i have found once i find a good spot, i can be so inspired that it’s the only place i can actually write anything coherent.

there is now the outdoors type of spaces. these ones can be a bit more of a challenge, depending on your method of writing. lugging a typewriter outside in a park is not always ideal, but a notepad or simple laptop would work okay. if you do have a method that works alright with outside, having the fresh air, sunshine or even drizzly rain outside can assist your writing.

while there are many places you can write, one thing is certain – if you don’t start, you won’t get anything on the page. So, get writing people! And i’ll take my own advice too.

See You in the Adventures!
